Ian Seymour Wells

1938-2019

Honorary Member

A charming but shy man, Ian Seymour Wells was a drawing tutor at Central St Martins and the London School of Dance who was more comfortable promoting others than himself. Recognised in the Australian art world and a British RA member, he exhibited in London during the 60s and 70s but chose a quieter introspective life as an artistic diarist and observer.

In his later years, many drawings were produced as he sat in the window seats of the cafes of Chipping Norton. “He once told me that his motivation lay in the notion of being aware that he would never discover the outcome surrounding the everyday snapshot he had recorded in the life of his subject.” Patrick Mahoney, friend.
